Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2, 2026

⚠️ Draft for review. This is plain-language boilerplate, not legal advice — have it reviewed before launch.

This Privacy Policy explains how Fretsy (“we,” “us”) handles information across the Fretsy mobile app and the fretsy.org website (together, the “Service”). The short version: the mobile app collects nothing, and the website collects only the minimum needed to run and secure it. We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other sites or apps.

1. The mobile app — Data Not Collected

The Fretsy mobile app runs entirely on your device. Everything it needs — the audio samples, scales, and progressions — is bundled inside the app, so it works with no internet connection.

  • There are no accounts and no sign-in.
  • There is no analytics, telemetry, or tracking of any kind.
  • The app makes no network requests to us and sends us no data whatsoever.
  • Your practice and tone settings are stored only on your own device and never leave it.

Because the app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information, there is nothing for us to hold, sell, or lose.

2. Purchases (the one-time Pro unlock)

If you buy the optional one-time Pro unlock, the purchase is handled entirely by the app store you downloaded from — Apple’s App Store on iOS (or Google Play on Android) — under that store’s own privacy policy. We never receive or store your name, card number, or payment details. The app only learns whether a valid purchase exists (your entitlement), which the app store manages on your device. Restoring a past purchase uses your Apple (or Google) account through the store; we do not see your account.

3. The website (fretsy.org)

If you use the website instead of the app, the following applies to that visit:

  • Standard server logs — our host (Amazon Web Services) records ordinary technical information such as request times and error details, used to operate and secure the site.
  • Aggregate visitor counts — from those logs we derive a private internal count of distinct visitors (a number). We do not store or expose the underlying addresses, and we do not build profiles of individuals.
  • No third-party tracking — we use no advertising networks, no third-party analytics services, and no cross-site tracking cookies.
  • Local preferences — any settings you change on the website are stored in your browser’s local storage and are not sent to us.

4. What we don’t do

We do not sell or rent your personal data. We do not serve advertising. We do not track you across other apps or websites. We do not send marketing emails.

5. Children

The Service is suitable for all ages and is not directed at children under 13. The mobile app collects no data from anyone, including children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the website.

6. Your rights

For the mobile app there is no personal data for us to access or delete, because we never receive any. For the website, if you believe we hold information about you and wish to access, correct, or delete it, email billtoner.email@gmail.com. Depending on where you live (for example, the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA), you may have additional rights, which we honor.

7. Changes

If we materially change how the Service handles information — for example, if we introduce optional website accounts in the future — we will update this policy and change the “Last updated” date above.
